RESTAURANT REVIEW: BYRON BURGER
The little open bit round the back of the Highcross near the cinema is so cool now, it's so built up. Like you can look at it and almost image it's not in Leicester, but then also it's hard to imagine town without it now. The latest edition is Byron Burger, another (kind of) American food chain that's set up shop there, I went along last week to check it out.
NAME: BYRON HAMBURGERS
LOCATION: 6 BATH HOUSE LANE, HIGHCROSS, LEICESTER, LE1 4SA
PRICE: The prices were ever so slightly above what I would have expected. Burgers were between 7-10 pounds while sides were all about 4 pounds. Milkshakes were £4.25 and extra sauces were £1.25. Saying that my whole meal (with extras) came up to just under £20, so in my head it's still in that affordable Nandos kind of price bracket. Right for the area. 6/10
They do a bunch of craft beers at around £4 for a 330ml measure
ATMOSPHERE: It was kind of cool, kind of calm. Low lit which was nice and the seating plan left it nice and open. So many restaurants round there cram tables together and the boring couple that've been married 20 years and hate each other and have nothing left to say end up eves dropping on your convo because they're close enough to. None of that here. Music was low, it was all just right. 7/10
My oreo milkshake was tall and thick, real good
FOOD: The food was really awesome. All I seem to do these days is go around tasting various burgers and fries haha but these were riiiight up there. The menu was big enough that they had variation but small enough that they do what they do well. I had a smoky with blue cheese and home made skin-on chips. It was divine, I could have ate it forever. Even now looking at that picture i'm salivating hard. It was covered in those crispy little deep fried onions and the blue cheese was a nice wedge of actual blue cheese, not just blue cheese sauce. The actual burgers were medium rare, and pink and delicious in the middle. Portions were pretty good too. 8/10
Dave's rather uninspiring plain cheese burger
DECOR: You know what, it looked really, really good. There were loads of kind of exposed copper pipes and walls that worked really well together, but then everywhere you looked there was worn leather. Everything aside from that looked all modern and new, like all the counters and tables were all matte black. It was odd because there was kind of nothing amazing about it but it all just looked really well done. The design themes that ran through out were great. 8/10
SERVICE: The service was great too. Everything ran so smoothly, it was so quick and efficient. It would be a problem for me if I worked in the area because you could easily get in, sit, order, get served, eat and leave within an hour. We weren't even in a rush and they served up in that time during evening service. The woman who served us was polite and funny, but she did one weird thing.
I hasn't seen my friend Dave in a while so we did that thing of sitting down at the table and gabbing to each other without even looking at the menu, just catching up. When she come over to take our order we asked for a couple more minutes and she just sat down with us and waited. It was so weird and uncomfortable. Aside from that odd moment of what I can only think was laziness it was top stuff. 7/10
CONCLUSION: It was really great! A really nice space and the food was so good, I can't wait to taste the other burgers. That said I can't wait to taste that Smokey with blue again, it really was amazing. Everything was on point and I really enjoyed my time there, literally nothing to complain about. If you like burgers get in there as soon as you can, I'm sure you'll really enjoy it too. It's a shame that this place is surrounded by Frankie & Bennies, Coast to Coast and Handmade, because it almost doesn't deserve to be lost in a sea of Burger places. If I'm down that way looking for a burger and fries again anytime soon I'm heading straight to Byron.
FINAL MARK: 36/50

KURLY HYPA - FADING EP
Hey, a couple of days ago I dropped some new music. For the last few months I've been working on an EP. I kind of wanted to take a break from writing the vapid, braggadocio rap that I always do and really try to write something a bit more introspective.
I used to write songs in a similar kind of format for a short while with Darryl and I miss those days so I tried to get back to that. Also, I've been listening to artists like Chance the Rapper, Drake, The Beatles and even Kanye and really admiring the way they will build a song and tackle a subject. Chance and The Beatles really inspired me lyrically, and quite a lot of this release is really sweet in that sense.
I've found I've had the best response to my music when it is wide open and really honest and I tried to keep that in mind whilst writing it. I found the whole process really challenging but hopefully I got there in the end and you lot will enjoy it.
Give it a spin and let me know what you think!

HALLOWEEN CULTURE CLASH FOODFEST
WELCOME TO THE YUNG STYLE DOJO! I wonder if anyone actually reads these little bits at the top. They're usually just me typing out in capitals not really saying much. Anyway, on we go
Is this good? Or does it just look delicious because we all love Reese's? Is it just peanut butter or would it be a little sweeter? Many questions. Have you seen that click on Facebook or some maggots in a Reese's cup? The people posting it were like noooo I'm never eating Reese's again! Fuck all that shit. Imagine watching Super Size Me and not wanting a McDonalds. Mental people.
Look at this guys outfit, what absolute gold. He really went for it and knocked it out of the park. I saw a photo on twitter of two other people dressed as pilots covered in blood and so on dressed as 'The pilots of the missing Malaysian airline' looooool. They were getting slated but fuck off, that's funny man. The more tasteless the better
Another fantastic effort, very simple but very good.
Imagine if I just popped a little dot on there. He was asleep so I'm not sure he would have noticed.
This was the most unfullfilling thing about my whole day. Do you know how shit this is? Even still, out of all the things I would want to go to you website to to find out why would they choose this?
The new shape London busses have this one little solo cabin seat at the front that was really making me laugh. So squashed and squeezed under the stairs.
I went to the Red Bull Culture Clash with Darryl. It was such a mental, exciting night. The scale of the event alone was absolutely crazy, Red Bull run the world.
Boy Better Know killed it standardly, the levels were so so gassed
Rebel Sound (David Rodigan, Shy FX and Chase and Status) won in the end, deservedly so. Some of the dubplates that these lot were pulling out were insane. They played a special version of Rihanna's 'We Found Love' that dissed BBK, Stone Love and A$AP Mob. It was crazy, everyone lost their minds.
Our wristbands got us into the afterparty too, which was fun. We went along on these busses. I'd love to know how much money they've spent on the whole event. On the night they had the covers of the evening standard, the Metro and another free London paper, I can't remember the name. Literally 3 full page covers. It was completely sold out months ago, but it was just brand building. Everything was branded.
The afterparty was cool. It was at some little club with about 200 people inside, and half of the grime MCs who were on the BBK stage were there and heartless crew. They all went back to back before Skream did a set. When we left we saw Toddla T knocking about outside. The afterparty alone was an amazing event haha
Head. To. Toe. This is a real outfit for a real war haha.
I met Rodigan and Stormzy briefly at the after party. Darryl had met Rodigan a couple of times and told me he was a real mardy arse in real life and I didn't want to believe him. I can confirm this is true, sorry to ruin the illusion.
On my coach back this was the most annoying cunt I'd ever met. Going to some House night in Manchester with her little crew who was on the coach. Wearing sunglasses on a national express coach during a dull October afternoon. Kind of loses it's ballerish connotation doesn't it?
She was fucking gaaawking all the way there in her broad south London accent. I fucking hate that accent on girls, I find it so so unattractive. It cuts through everything and goes right into the middle of my head.
Johnnys costume was pretty sick at the Coolden halloween party I went to. Check him out
Mental things were happening. Fosters shouldn't be used as a mixer, no matter how much you hate their adverts.
Beastwang was a standard vybes after the party. It's been a while since I've MC'd in a club drunk. It will be a while again.
Bees's mum is real nice. I've never met her but because she knows I'm a greedy boy she made me this biiiiig portion of chilli and even gave me a little bowl of grated cheese to go with it. I had a portion yesterday and I can confirm it's delicious. I was eating it and wondering why chilli con carne has never entered the 'favourite food' conversation in my mind. It was literally that good. Thanks, Bees's mum.
The menu has changed ever so slightly as Slug and Lettuce. I saw 'buttered asparagus' and licked my lips. I thought perfect! I can substitute out my regular greasy onion rings and have delicious long, steaming stems of asparagus each time I each there. Imagine how underwhelmed I was with this shit.
Why are phone books allowed please? In 2014 why are phone books allowed. It's mental, a mental, mental waste of paper. Some cunt who works for the Yellow Pages had took the time and effort to ram one into every letterbox of the apartment block I live at. I would have loved to have caught the cunt and started ripping them out and throwing them at his head. It needs to stop, we've all, always got google.
Seen this awesome contraption? Never seen one before but I was into it. Preeeetty cool.
That's your lot! feel free to leave a comment in the top right corner! WXCKXDLXND

KURLY HYPA / FADING EP / OUT SUNDAY 9TH NOV [EP TEASER]
Yoooooooooooooo so I've got a new EP coming out on Sunday, and I made a little video just to promo the songs and look at the process a little bit. This was shot with that new camera I bought about a month ago and it was also just an exercise to get back to grips with editing video. I want to start filming more content for the Wickedland YouTube channel, so it's a step towards that.
Anyway, Enjoy the video and keep an eye out for the EP when I post it on Sunday!

MARKET STREET MELTDOWNS VOL 1
YO WHAT UP WHAT UP WE BACK WE BACK. BACK TO BIDNIZ WITH THE BLOG GAME PHIL COLLINS, LETS GO
Woowwwwww the most notable thing in the new series of the apprentice is the shape of this contestants head. madness. That's not photoshop. There are no special effects here. No smoke and mirrors, that's really all her.
I swear I step into this tesco and my life is constantly having the piss taken out of it. Rules go out the window when I enter. All mad stuff can happen. After she paid she mounted the bike and like skipped out of the store, push the bike along with her tip toes. Piss off
More flapjack stuff. This time I took the flapjacks out and pushed the maltesers in while they were still warm. (It's just become clear why someone wrote 'malteser' in the comments box, it's because I was spelling it wrong through out my entire flapjack post.)
These were like crack. They were so good. I'm gonna buy cinnamon sugar next and make cinnamon flapjacks. Imagine how amazing they will taste please.
Remember that day last week when the wind just went completely mental? It blew all these leaves off. IS that notable given it's autumn now? I don't know. But there was a thick, steady row of leaves that was about 100 metres long, all from one day. Imagine a whole tree full of leaves is like a royal rumble and the last leave on the tree is the winner, it makes nature more fun.
Meanwhile some bloke was just sick in the middle of the day on Market street. Just on the floor as if it was normal. Didn't get to a bin, or a gutter, or even a fucking toilet, he just let it all out then and there.
These lot are taking the piss out of my soul recently. A lot of mental things happening on Market street come to think of it. These lot continually hose it down, like blast the pavement with water. Why? I literally have no idea. I have to walk through this shit and end up drenched. Can you just not please?
The best I come up with is 'Dog The Bounty Luncher', can you do better?
It's been a drab week weather wise. I've finally admitted defeat for the year. It's over isn't it. That's it, it's gone. If ever anyone wanted to know how grey and ugly our country is you could show them this photo. What a dark, grim place.
It was the GET 3 premier last week! I literally couldn't believe the turn out, what an amazing brand Callun has created with an ever growing loyal following. It was an amazing evening, everyone had a great time.
Eric really likes Teeps
Also Eric really liked giving these little kids Whiskey. Fair play to them, they gave it a real good glug and held it better than I would have done at their age. Of the three this little ginger one was my favourite, he was really up for drinking the whiskey and was smiling at the idea through out hahaha.
JLS new album out soon
Still about, still putting in work. His dreadlocks are almost admirable now.
Wiley sports a top that says 'WICKED' on the collar in the new 'On A Level' video. Nice to know I'm as much of an influence to him and he is to me.
Some religious DVDs in Peri Peri next to where the flyers are.
TITLES INCLUDE:
WAS CHRIST CERTIFIED
RELIGION IN THE RIGHT PERSPECTIVE
PRESS DEBATE (simple)
IS THE QUR'AN GOD'S WORD?
(And my personal favourite) IF THE LABEL SHOWS YOUR IDENTITY, WEAR IT
Message me if you wanna come round my yard and have a marathon with them. Until then thanks for popping by, see you again soon.
