so i got some money towards a new ipod from my mum and dad for christmas, and i finally bought one and it came. ive spent today putting a load of stuff onto it and it means the end of an era with my (now) old ipod (pictured).
this was my third ipod i ever had, a 4th generation 16gb ipod nano its served me perfectly for just over 3 years without one problem. i feel a bit odd to be letting it go, but its simply a case of upgrading. ive listened to it literally every day since ive had it, and besides my hard-drive its probably my most valuable possession. its played host to some recordings (be them extremely un-airable drunken christmas special podcasts, or exclusive summer jams from V I S I O N S) that have never been heard anywhere else. it only feels fitting to mark its final day with a post about it.

some little facts whilst just mooching around it, wiley is the artist with the most albums and separate tracks on it, there is currently 3132 songs on it, 9 podcasts and 2 videos. 390mb free and 14.6gb used. the longest track is 1:29:35, a grime set entitled "15/01/06, Maximum ft Wiley, JME, Skepta, Wretch 32, Scorcher, Jammer, Tempa T, Fury, Slickman, Brazen & Chronik" and the shortest track is the intro to skepta's 2005 release "joseph junior adenuga" coming in at 0:06. (its just him saying "oi blud, oi blud; how many times did i tell you blud? man told you already, man told you. man told you long time".

as i look through the top played here are the top 20 played songs from over the last three years:

20: imagine - kano kano mixtape (28)
19: i stand corrected - vampire weekend downloads (29)
18: crazy for you adele 19 (31)
17: dear summer - jay-z 534 (36)
16: take on me - aha assorted 80's jams (40)
15: a milli lil wayne tha carter III (44)
14: without manner you grace us (demo) these furrows dem furraz (45)
13: say whats real drake so far gone (49)
--: borderline madonna immaculate collection volume one (49)
11: how we do mount sims downloads (51)
10: 21 questions 50 cent FIDDYMANG (57)
9: do me a favour arctic monkeys favourite worst nightmare (73)
--: shoot me down lil wayne tha carter III (73)
7: you dont know my name alicia keys the diary of alicia keys (87)
6: Spaceship (feat. GLC & Consequence) kanye west the college dropout (88)
5: always bon jovi power ballards (97)
4: ten years these furrows dem furraz (105)
3: crying lightning arctic monkeys humbug (108)
2: my boy builds coffins florence and the machine lungs (117)
1: still D.R.E dr dre 2001 (132)

and for potentially its last ever spin (unless i get mugged of my new ipod in a week and have to run back to it with open arms) i gave it a little shuffle and it popped up with 'prang man' by newham generals taken from 'the best of newham generals volume one'. there has never been such fitting funeral music.
